Next on the monster parade, the Alu-Fiend!
So, this creature appeared in the AD&D Monster Manual
II as the Alu-Demon, and was basically a half-succubus.
The Alu-Fiend and Cambion would eventually fit in the hierarchy after full demons, then alu-fiend/cambion or the 3rd edition half-fiend, and
then tiefling for some fiendish heritage.
Again, the original Monster Manual II states made this
creature is a little over-powered compared to it’s flavor text, so we’re going
to tone it down a bit. Instead of 6 HD,
which would be more than a DCC lesser succubus, let’s make it’s hit dice
4d8. It’s original AC of 5 (15) we’ll
tone down to AC 13, we’ll keep the movement rate of 30’ (Fly 30’), resistance
to non-cold iron or magical weapon damage, drain life ability, and infravision. It doesn’t need charm person, ESP and
suggestion, we’ll just give it charm person, plus the Type I demon ability of
darkenss. We’ll ditch the magic
resistance and ability to dimension door.
We’ll also let it keep it’s alter form ability since it's just
cosmetic. The energy drain is an awesome
ability, we’ll keep that too.
There’s no ‘demon type’ listed here because to my mind, it
isn’t even a Type I demon, even though it has some common abilities with
them. Type 0.5 doesn’t sound quite
right. :)
Alu-Fiend (Demon): Init +2; Atk weapon +5 melee (as weapon +1 damage
from Strength) or energy drain +5 melee (DC 12 Fort save or 1d4 Strength drain);
AC 13 (or armor if worn, whichever is better); HD 4d8 (18 hp); MV 30’, Fly 30’;
Act 1d20; SP alter form (assume an illusory form at will without fiendish
traits), darkness (+4 check), energy
drain (DC 12 Fort save 1d4 Strength which heals the Alu-Fiend the same number
of hit points) , infravision 60’, resistant to non-magical or cold iron weapons,
spell – charm person (+5 check); SV Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +4; AL CE,, Crit
DN/d4.
Alu-fiends can speak Abyssal and Common. They have infravision, and the ability to
cast the spell darkness with a +4 check, and charm person with a
+5 check.
When an alu-fiend drains life force from a
touched target, it heals them an equivalent number of hit points, and this is
how they sustain themselves.
