Harnmaster 3.75 - Gytevsha Summoning

So, I'm prepping for returning to a HarnMaster game, and while I ran HarnMaster 1st Edition/Gold last time I ran a campaign, this time I've decided to mostly use the 3.5 edition rule base, but bring in things from Gold and HarnMaster Kelestia that I like, for a 3.75 Ruleset mashup.

I'm using some excellent elements from HMK -- extra Personality Attributes (Reason, Eloquence, Creativity, etc), the HMK Skill List, and Parent Occupation generation, Occupation skills, Skill Development rules and what not.  But I'm still using the 3-attribute Skill Base, Simpler skill explanations and execution, and Sunsign modifiers to Skill Bases.

Our first dry run of the 3.75 rules was rolling up a character -- our first player rolled the son of a Bailiff -- and the father was absent.  He then rolled randomly for his religion, and got Naveh.  Was his mother a cultist?  Did she have his father murdered?  Great backstory potential here.  He decided to join the Clergy of Naveh, and be a muderous Geralt-ish warrior in service to dark powers.  Very cool.  We discussed how to make that work in a party environment, what his 'cover' would be with the other characters, and I'm generally pleased with the results (but I found typos in my rules mashup, and the custom Character Sheet I built didn't have enough spaces, but those are easily fixed.

By taking Priest of Naveh as his occupation, he gained the Summoning skill/power (from HMK).  I guess I had better work that out!  I'm not using the dense HMK skill and power routines, trying to keep things more like the 3.5 ruleset.  So I wrote up what Summoning looks like in my game, and fleshed out the Gytevsha Summoning part for his character.  Happy to share it here!

SUMMONING (REA ELO AUR, Nad/Mas +1)
Some religions and cults use the arcane mysteries to summon entities from the astral world. Often called ‘black magic’ or ‘demonry’, such practices are held in great secret and revealed only to high priests. Each religion or cult’s Summoning routine tests its own, separate skill (Naveh: Gytevsha Summoning, Morgath: Shadow Summoning, Agrik: V’hir Summoning).

Gytevsha Summoning: This is a Navehan Invocation that takes 15-SI minutes, and a devout Navehan can also spend up to 20 Piety Points to boost the EML by up to +20.  If performed during the monthly Dezeneka mass, add +10 to EML.
CF results in seeing unknown horrors (gain 1d6 Psyche levels on a random trauma (CHARACTER 18) that heal at one level per month, and Aural Shock (1d6 levels).
MF results in an Aural Shock (1d6 levels),
MS results in summoning a Gytevsha that may or may not be under the invoker’s control (make Mental Conflict checks each round until one side is victorious) and the spirit manifests for SI minutes.
CS results in a summoned faithful spirit that remains present for SI x 3 minutes.
Regardless of success, the invoker suffers 1d3 levels of Weariness from the summoning attempt.

Gytevsha

The demonic servants of the deity Navéh. The Greater Gytévshai number three and are major demons. Their servants, the “Lesser Gytévshai”, vary in power and form.  All Gytévshai are about half as powerful in full daylight.
They are ethereal, but can become
corporeal at will. They remain habitually invisible until injured. They rarely fight in any material manner, but may attempt possession (and potentially cause physical harm to their possessed host), or attempt to drive mortals insane.

The Gytévshai visit mortals while they sleep to bring nightmares. While they are not the cause of all bad dreams, they are often blamed for the worst of them. Gytévshai are rarely
encountered during the
day.
